This past weekend in Nashville…. involved a lotta music, old and new friends, and a growing desire to move there! whew.
Friday night… Autumn Defense @ Family Wash. Pat and John from Wilco (Glenn even sat in on drums), their side project played an intimate set at this teeny cool little place the night before their 2 night gigs at the Ryman!
Saturday night WILCO @ the Ryman, my favorite venue in all of the United States!
Chris and Chris.
Backstage familiar Oxford, MS faces with John.
Me, Ally in an empty Ryman. No trip to Nashville is complete with out a trip to Roberts Western World downtown! We just happen to be there for the live Radio broadcasting of a rare show from Wanda Jackson. Known as the Queen of Rockabilly from the 50’s and 60’s! She’s 73, and Jack White just produced her last album. She was amazing!!! What a treat!
some western wear.
Owner of Roberts and that fantastic Cadillac. The car Wanda rolled up in!
Tipped the night off with friends to see the Honeymoon Thrillers (you know those talented Barlowe boys I’ve mentioned before) at a private show at 12th & Porter.
Austin’s South By Southwest is something all music lovers should experience at least once. In my case, I hope to never miss it again and definitely extend my stay next year! SXSW has become one of the largest music festivals in the world, with 2,000 bands from all over the world playing in every nook, corner and cranny for 4 days straight in just about every and any open establishment in the downtown area. Weather was perfect, parking was never a problem, getting in to shows was easy, the only problem is accepting that you just cant see it all! Of course I tried in the short time I was there. I’ve learned that at some point, you have to just put the camera down and enjoy the music.. couple of my favorites I did get here….
I was rushing out of the airport like a crazy person to make it to my first show of choice. Within 45 minutes of landing, grabbing bags and parking, I was downtown at Annies West to see the Honeymoon Thrillers from Nashville, TN. Always a treat to see those crazy talented Barlowe Brothers rock it!
